This is another splendid looking Wade & Butcher Near Wedge vintage razor from mid 1800's. Considering this razor is over a 150 years old I'd say it's looking damn magnificent.
The razor was professionally restored preserving the original near wedge grind as much as possible. I deliberated for a long time as to completely remove the frosted etching or leave as is. I deciced to keep the frosted etching and lightly buffed that part making sure to keep as much as possible. It's still present but hard to completely capture on picture. There are some minor remaining residual stains on the frosted etching but removing those would have meant doing a full re-grind and having to remove the frosted etching. The rest of the razor is pretty much free of pitting, stains or other blemishes due to the extensive restore. The custom scales are sapphire blue acrylic tapered with a bloody red jasper recon stone.
The blade measures an average of 13/16. A tad under 7/8 at the widest part (toe side) and close to 6/8 at the narrow side (heel side).
Grind: Near Wedge Barber's notch.
Hardware: Silver nickel pins. Stainless steel and brass washers
On the front shank it says: Wade & Butcher - Sheffield
The frosted etching says: Wade & Butcher / Celeberated / Fine India Steel Razor
Centers nicely and pins are tight.
Extremely beautiful condition and example of at least a 150 years old Wade & Butcher razor.
Comes shave ready.
Successor to Robert Wade; succeeded by Butcher, Brown & Butcher Sheffield - 1818-1890.
