Yasugi steel is renowned for its exceptional sharpness and smoothness, captivating the admiration of many enthusiasts. A remarkably keen edge, as they say.

The makers mark on the razor are my initials (MS) in Japanese Katakana, which is the phonetic writing for foreign names.

Yasugi - Hitachi shiro-gami

This steel is super pure, in which it has very little impurities such as phosphorus and sulfur in the steel's make up. Shiro-gami or white paper steel is the closest steel to the traditional Tamahagane steel. Yasugi steel is a high-quality, versatile steel produced by Hitachi Metals (Proterial, Ltd), known for its purity, high hardness, sharpness, and ease of sharpening. This steel originates from Japan.

Shiro-Gami

is available in three distinct types: #1, #2, and #3. These versions mostly differ in their carbon content and final hardness. Notably, version 1 possesses the highest carbon content and can attain the highest hardness, sharpness and edge retention among the three. (61-64+ HRC)

Yasugi steel

is not corrosion-free. Always wipe your razor clean and store it in a dry location. For better storage wipe the steel with a protective oil (ex. camelia oil, ballistol, mineral oil, baby oil, renaissance wax, vaseline, gun oil...)

I always recommend not closing the razor when you are done shaving as water and humidity can still be trapped between the razor scales. Let it open for at least 15 minutes or longer before storing away your razor so any water or humidity can evaporate.

The scales are 100% genuine awabi shell on a white backing and covered with a durable topcoat of industrial resin making them very sturdy, maintenance free and at the same time protecting the shell.

Mokume Gane (wood grained metal) originated in Japan in the 17th century as a mixed metal laminate with distinctive layered wood grain type patterns creating spectacular decorations for Samurai Swords. The first recorded use of mokume gane was by Denbei Shoami (1651-1728) who lived and worked in Japan. Shoami adapted the principles of forge-welded Damascus steel to create mokume gane. Mokume Gane comes at a price, just like Damascus as it's very time consuming and expensive to make. A tiny micro pit can sometimes be present and is nothing to worry about as it's normal and pretty much unavoidable. It doesn't affect the stability at all

This Carbon Fiber is comprised of a woven material throughout all of the layers of the laminate. It has a glossy finish on both sides. Tiny micro voids or pits on any carbon fiber finish (natural, satin or glossy) is normal when present and pretty much unavoidable.
